Air raid war dead archive online

A HISTORY of civilian casualties in the Second World War has been launched online.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has placed photographs, facsimiles of mortuary reports and details of Allied and German deaths in the borough on its website.

It says: “Although suffering only a few bombing raids compared with Birmingham, Solihull urban district did sustain some bomb damage and dozens of people were killed in air raids.”

It said there were four main air raids in which people were killed, November 19/20 and 22/23 1940, 11/12 December 1940 and July 21 1942.

Deaths included three generations of the same family aged 58 to two years.
