Villagers are invited to cheer along 2,000 runners from 11am when the starting gun is fired at Arden School in Station Road.

Bargain Hunt TV presenter Charles Hanson will set runners on their way.

Organiser Arian Harris said: “For the third year the course will be traffic-free with road closures and diversions operational from 11.45am.

“These will be kept to an absolute minimum and cleared as soon as possible.

“We apologise in advance should this inconvenience you and beg your understanding.

“Please remember this is only once a year and enables us to stage a superb community event, which involves the whole village, including all the schools and many clubs, raising over £40k for local and national charities in 2009.”

Teams include a group of Army and TA members who will be competing in a 25kg bergan and boots.

The event will include stalls and a barbecue.

As well as local charities, organisers have chosen three charities to benefit from sponsorship cash, The Parkinson’s Disease Society, The Teenage Cancer Trust and fly2help.

Douglas, the mascot for the latter, which offers flights to the terminally ill, chronically sick and bereaved, will meet villagers at the event.
