A MAJOR extension is planned for Widney Manor Cemetery after bosses warned it will be full within two years.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council wants to extend the cemetery into Green Belt land at the south of existing site.

The 3,000 grave cemetery was opened in 1992 but will be full within two years, it says. The extension would provide space for another 15 years.

The plan:

Robin Hood Cemtery in Olton Road is full and Woodlands Cemetery and Crematorium on the Birmingham Road near Coleshill will be full in eight years.

It says the Widney Manor plan will result in ‘no increased impact on the local road network’ as only one service can take place at one time.

The extension would be to the back of houses in Four Ashes Road and run to the border with the Dorridge to Birmingham railway line.

The council said the plans were ‘generally well received’ by residents and their calls for more screening had been taken up.
