Police put on streets over riot concerns

POLICE have been put on the streets of Solihull to "reassure" people over rioting across England.

DI Neil Thomas wrote on Twitter at 4pm: "No intel I am aware of which would make me avoid the area. Officers deployed to reassure."

There are reports on the social networking website of the town being quiet.

Supt Mark Payne, of West Midlands Police, said on Twitter last night: "Final tweet of the night (v early start) can confirm no disorder in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Coventry, Dudley, Solihull."

DI Neil Thomas, of Solihull division, said: "I was told earlier no issues in Solihull."

But Insp Keith Portman wrote today: "Following last night’s disorder in Birmingham, and to a lesser extent in Solihull, West Midlands Police are actively working with our communities and partners to ensure the safety of our communities."

No details were given of any incidents in Solihull.
