St George & St Teresa Catholic Primary School in Dorridge will also close but Knowle and Dorridge primaries will stay open.

In a letter to parents, Mr Murphy said: “I am concerned that staffing levels on 30th November 2011 will fall well short of the minimum required level to ensure the health and safety of our students.

“As a consequence it has been agreed that, in the circumstances, I am left with no alternative but to close the school for all students.”

He said: “We apologise for the considerable difficulties this decision may give to many parents and we thank you in advance for your continuing support and understanding.”

Des Foxon, headteacher at St George & St Teresa said: After considering the health, safety and welfare of staff and pupils and the number of staff who will be prepared to work, I have reluctantly had to reach the decision to close the school to pupils on that day.”

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council said it expected bins to be collected as normal. Click here for updates.
