Some 80 per cent of charges at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre will rise by 5.3 per cent or below under the plans.

This will take an adult peak swim at Tudor Grange from £3.90 to £4.10. Off peak will rise from £2.85 to £3 from January 1.

They have been proposed by Parkwood Leisure, a company which runs the service on behalf of the council.

The council has a policy that the increases cannot be above the retail price index, currently 5.3 per cent.

The average increase across all charges would be 4.35 per cent, with the highest 10 per cent, hire of a synthetic pitch at Tudor Grange, from £54 to £66.

Prices and increases are lower at North Solihull Sports Centre in Fordbridge in a bid to tackle poorer health in the deprived area.

Kate Wild, council cabinet member for community services, is expected to approve the increases today.
