  1. This isn't a surprise, the days of the video shop are numbered, it's just sad that it will become another charity shop in Knowle rather than something useful.

  2. What sort of 'useful' thing were you thinking?

  3. A decent hardware shop, perhaps, such as the one that had been replaced by The Catwalk on Kenilworth Road and which had always been very useful.

    1. It might not be the size of the old hardware shop, but the new one opposite Tescos is excellent. They have loads of things at the back. If they don't stock it, they will order it in for you, and phone you when it arrives. It has saved me many a trip to B&Q for small things.

    2. Yes. I've used this shop a lot. They are very friendly and sell loads of really useful stuff. They are also very helpful. Let's hope that Waitrose don't affect them as well!

  4. Why do you think that stopped trading?
Hardware shops find it very hard to make any money in this day and age.
I think we have to face up to the fact that high streets need to be smaller - we're lucky there aren't too many empty units - but that's mainly because of the no of estate agents and hair dressers

  5. Charity shops are useful. Maybe we'll get more of them when Waitrose corner the market on everything else.

  6. what a shame it's yet another charity shop. high streets are become so sad. Even some of the nice individual high streets such as Knowle, are gradually heading towards that depressing line of best fit model for the high street - 3 x coffee shops, 5 x charity shops, 2 x betting shops, couple of supermarkets...

Charity shops in moderation are of course good, but Knowle already has 3-4. Doesn't need anymore!

  7. A bakers that has reasonable prices or a sandwich shop where the staff don't scowl at you would both useful additions.

  8. @9:50 I've just been to Greedy Guts, you're right they are seriously unfriendly in there. I felt like I was trespassing.

  9. Have you seen the sandwich board Knowle, they deliver to your work and its good grub and fair prices and i think you will find them very nice to deal with. They have a website it is (i also put in my signature). they also cater for office buffets for meetings, kids parties and that. www.sandwichboardknowle.co.uk

    1. I was at a meeting in Knowle and had one of the Sandwich Board's buffets. It was brilliant! The food was great and so was the service. FRIENDLY! Are these the same people that put the flyers out in the local school for children's party food boxes? Haven't heard of them before the buffet.

    2. Yes I think so we got a flyer from of of the girls who works in our place she got it from a hair dressers, I often order food from the sandwich board. Dunno about other stuff have a look at website. But they are nice to deal with. One of our guys is celiac and she didn't fleece him on a special sandwich.

  10. I can remember when, years ago, there was another video shop in Knowle, which wasn't part of a chain. Blockbuster moved in and rented out their videos for 50p each. This went on until they drove the other shop out of business, then they put their prices up.

I hope the people who worked there find new jobs quickly.

  11. Another charity shop in Knowle? The two we have got are very good, but surely another one will just take customers off the ones that are already there!

  12. No, if you go to Kenilworth or anywhere else where there are lots of charity shops you will find that people do the tour of these shops, often buying different items en route.

  13. There seem to be quite a few empty shops at the far end of Knowle by the sweet shop. Any ide what's happening to them?

  14. Dunno. But I bet Waitrose scares off any really useful shops that are really needed.
