Wards 15 and 19 have been locked down because of the virus, also known as winter vomiting disease.

Hospital associate medical director Dr Rex Polson said: “As there are many cases of norovirus outside the hospital in the community Solihull Hospital has closed all wards to visitors except for the outpatients department and intensive care as a precautionary measure to protect patients.

“Any patients attending an outpatient appointment should not attend if they have experienced vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms two days prior to their appointment.

“This situation is being reviewed on a daily basis, but visiting is expected to be closed for the rest of the weekend.”

It said relatives can call phones by patients’ bedsides by calling 0121 424 2000.
