MP Spelman: Thatcher "made me proud to be British"

CONSERVATIVE Meriden MP Caroline Spelman has paid tribute to Baroness Thatcher, saying she made her “proud to be British”.

The former Prime Minister died yesterday from a stroke. She was 87.

In a statement, Mrs Spelman said: “We will mourn the passing of a great statesman who led the way to end the Cold war which overshadowed my generation as well as casting off the bad reputation of Britain as the sick man of Europe.

“She made me proud to be British.”

A book of condolence has opened at Solihull Conservative Assocation in Manor Road, Solihull.

Julian Knight, set to stand for the party in Solihull at the 2015 General Election, wrote on Twitter: “Greatly saddened to hear of the death of Margaret Thatcher she was our greatest post war PM & made Britain stand tall in the world again”
