Council pays out £2m redundancy

COUNCIL bosses paid out £2m in redundancy payments last year, new figures show.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council paid £2,079,000 to 95 people in 2013/14 for voluntary and compulsory redundancies.

It said these were mostly for “operational changes”, changes to accommodate new laws and to make savings.

Some 147 received a total £3.4m the previous year. End ofyear accounts also show the number of staff on more than £50,000 fell from 205 to 198.

Former chief executive Mark Rodgers, who stepped down in February, was paid £128,971 in the last financial year.
