MORE than £200,000 on consultants and £2,000 on pantomime clothing was amongst spending by Solihull council last month, revealed under a Government demand to publish purchases over £500.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council spent £211,605.61 on consultants and £2,000 for the pantomime. It owns the Solihull Arts Centre, which hosts a festive panto.
The 3,988 items of spending also includes £526.38 on training at the Park Farm Hotel for children’s social work.

The coalition Government said all councils must publish the data by January shortly after it came to power.
The council said it will publish the information monthly. Not all spending is including such as salaries and information to protect children and vulnerable people.
Cllr Andy Hodgson, cabinet member for resources and efficiency, said: “We feel it is really important that our financial information is available for people to view.
“People can see how much money we spend and on what.
“We are happy to be open and transparent, and believe that people, when they view the documents, will be reassured that our spending decisions are sound.”
The council said it will priovide further information on particular items on request and within 20 working days.
