The plans would close Sunhaven in Solihull Lodge for OAPs and learning disability properties including Downing Close, Three Gates and Hurst Green Road in Knowle.
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is asking for responses to a questionnaire by January 31 to help shape a formal consultation.
As previously reported by The Silhillian, the council says people need to be encouraged to live at home with support and this is driven in part by spending cuts.
And residents can now decide where council cash for their care is spent, meaning they can spend it elsewhere, the council adds. Changes would take affect from February 2012.
The councils has put forward three early options; doing nothing, investment to maintain basic standards and closures.
The council backs the latter only. It says buildings will become ‘not fit for purpose’ and are cramped and do not have en-suite bathrooms.
The council says of closures: “This option would develop a planned programme of closures in a safe and transparent manner and the reprovision of services.
“It would improve the balance of care by maximising the use of available resources. We are committed to offering a range of support for individuals and their families to be independent for as long as possible.
“Personalised services will support people and communities to take greater responsibility for their own health and well-being.”
