0.2% use £160k police maps

JUST 4,000 people a month are looking at online crime maps which have cost taxpayers £160,000.

West Midlands Police gave the cash to a software developer for its MyNeighbourhood project.

The force covers an area of 2.6 million people – but just 4,698 people visited in October, the last month for which full figures are available. A similar number of visitors went to the site in previous months.

The figures were uncovered by a member of the public using the Freedom of Information Act and posted on the What Do They Know? website.
