Police "reassure" over students in park
POLICE say they have sent an officer to “reassure” parents who feel “vulnerable” around large groups of college students in Malvern Park.
A report by officers says: “In September the local community raised concerns to the team about feeling vulnerable in the parks when a high number of students leave the Sixth Form College at the same time.
“Since the start of the school and college terms in September, a police community support officer (PCSO) has been posted to Malvern Park at the end of each academic day.
“This is to provide reassurance and also the opportunity for you to speak with them and discuss any concerns you may have.”
Parents have been in the park at the same time as students more after the college began an earlier finish time of 3.30pm, The Solihull News reports.
This has led to a series of letters to the newspaper. Read them here, here, here and here.
Retail crime was also a priority, the police update said in its update, and officers will be targeting pickpockets and shoplifters.
A “den” in Chelveston Crescent was cleaned up to make it “less inviting” for youngsters to hang around and cause a nuisance, it added.
