Council future uncertain as Tories lose seats

THE future of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is uncertain this afternoon after the ruling Conservatives lost the majority of seats at local elections.

A vote for of a third of all seats saw the Liberal Democrats gain one and Labour two, giving them 19 and seven seats respectively.

The Conservatives lost two – in Elmdon and Kinghurst and Fordbridge – giving the party 23 seats.

SOLIHULL Metropolitan Borough Council will be tweeting live results for two elections tonight – and you can see them as they come in below.

The authority will post results from the Solihull and Meriden constituencies for the Parliamentary election.

It will also post results of 17 seats on the authority, a third of all seats.

BNP to fight council elections

THE British National Party will again try to win seats on Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council at next month’s elections.

The party has fielded 16 candidates out of 17 possible seats, including Knowle, Dorridge and Hockley Heath and Silhill for the May 6 poll.

It beat Labour and the Greens to come third in Dorridge and Hockley Heath at the last poll in 2008.

Nominations open for council elections

NOMINATIONS have opened for council elections to be held on May 6.

One seat is up for election in all 17 wards of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, including Knowle and Dorridge and Hockley Heath wards.

They must be submitted by noon on April 8. Candidates will be announced on April 12.
