Raised crossing for Knowle cut-through

A RAISED pedestrian crossing will be installed in Lodge Road, Knowle later this month.

The road will be part closed from Monday February 22 to Friday February 26 from Station Road to its junction with St Johns Close.

Most residents, 77 per cent, supported the scheme in a consultation by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.

It will be placed by the exit of Knowle Park to an alley leading to the village centre. A report says this will benefit children and the elderly who want to cross the road.

Click here for a map of the scheme and here for a map of the proposed closure.

New play area "encourages risk"

NEW play equipment in Knowle Park will “encourage an element of risk and adventure” Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council said.

The authority has installed the new equipment using grant cash and £11,000 from the Friends of Knowle Park group.

Council leader Councillor Ken Meeson said: “We want to give children the chance to have fun and adventure in great places to play near to where they live and through working in partnership we have made this a reality for lots of young people.”

The play area now features a nest swing, rock spinner, zip wire, trio rocker, pod swing, rotating beam and activity trail with climbing net.

The SMBC statement said: “The new play equipment for all of the play areas that have been improved has been chosen to challenge children and encourage an element of risk and adventure.”

Jill Chape, treasurer for the friends group, said: “We are really pleased with the improvements that we have been able to make.

“Local children think the new play area is great. I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make this project possible.”

Other new play areas include Malvern Park.
