The Solihull and Meriden Residents Association said these were the Green Belt, Land Rover, local referenda and under-threat Solihull maternity services.
A statement says it aims to ‘allow the voters to take back control of the council’ and was in response to ‘this year’s Council Tax rise of 2.5%’ and council cuts.
The actual increase for the council’s part of the final bill is 2.25 per cent while the average total increase, including police and fire, is 2.11 per cent.
Chairman Josie Herbert said there had been a “loss of democracy in local politics” and party would contest all 17 SMBC seats at the May 6 election.
She said they want “to take back control of the council by the voters and stop the waste of our hard-earned money”.
“We have no political allegiances; we have no agenda other than the best interests of Solihull, Meriden and the local communities.”
She called for an end to ‘cabinet-style back room decision making’ and for councillors ‘to be aware that people would rather have their bins emptied than pay for jobs for politically correct officials’.
The statement said: “The introduction of binding local referenda for major local schemes such as the building of new supermarkets must be implanted.”
