She was taken ill last year four days after eating a hot buffet lunch from The Fortune Inn, Stratford Road.
Four other customers were ill and officers found the bug on a cleaning cloth 15 days after she complained.
Owner Pak Fair Chu pleaded guilty to four charges when taken to court by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. He was fined and ordered to pay costs.
A council press release said this “included failing to ensure that food was fit for human consumption and failing to ensure the correct procedure for cleaning cloths was implemented”.
It said: “Officers visited the Fortune Inn on 1 August, by which time the woman had been admitted to hospital with what was later discovered to be the rare strain of food poisoning salmonella menhaden.
“In a further visit to the eatery made by the council, samples were taken from foodstuffs and cleaning materials, which were then tested.
“A sample from a cleaning cloth was found to match the type of salmonella the woman had suffered and had still been present on the cloth 15 days after the original complaint.
“There had also been four other customers complaining of being ill after eating at the Fortune Inn.”
Deputy council leader Councillor Bob Sleigh said: “This case highlights the excellent work done by our food safety team, whose prompt and effective response to the initial complaint potentially stopped many other people falling ill.”
