MOST Dorridge residents who commented online on plans to bring a major Sainsbury’s store to the village oppose the scheme.Some four supported the plan, for the Forest Court Shopping Precinct, while 33 opposed it.
They were left on the official planning application on the website of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, which has the final say on the plan.
AL Hughes wrote: “This is a major undertaking in Dorridge, and has to be welcomed.
“The existing structure is like something out of East Germany in the 1960s.
“No doubt some people will object, but I have to ask them, do they want the existing structure to remain?”
Joanne Candy wrote: “I welcome a change to Dorridge and it is very much needed. I find it impossible to shop locally.”
Yet G E Thomas wrote: “The proposed store will change the whole appearance of the village for the worse. It is far too large and will dominate the existing buildings.”
Dr Henry Seaton wrote: “The village roads will not be able to support the volume of vehicles that is being proposed and will undoubtedly lead to an increased risk to pedestrians.”
K Elmhirst said: “This development is not required.
“There are at least six large supermarkets with six mile radius of Dorridge.
“One very large Sainsbury’s on the Stratford Road, and one sizable Sainsbury’s in Solihull town centre, both 3.5 miles away from Dorridge.”
