Councillor Ted Richards was urged in a Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council report to extend traffic calming measures on Cranmore Boulevard only.
Yet he is considering his decision further.
Some 415 people backed the crossing after last year’s death, when a pedestrian was killed crossing the road near Swallows Meadow.
A probe found this was the only collision within 100 metres of the proposed crossing between 2006 and 2009.
The reports suggests traffic calming measures be looked and two elderly crossing signs put up. A raised table is nearby. See a map of the site here.
The report said: “It is considered that the provision of a pedestrian crossing facility at the suggested location in the petition would serve to help only a small proportion of those people that are crossing Cranmore Boulevard.
“It is therefore, recommended that the most appropriate solution would be to extend the existing traffic calming measures, which would also provide the added benefit of deterring through traffic using Cranmore Boulevard.”
The meeting found Cllr Richards “deferred consideration of this report to enable further investigations to take place”.
