THE starting gun has been fired in a bid to bring a ‘super casino’ to Solihull.Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is inviting firms to bid for one large casino licence. The public can comment on draft criteria for the casino.
It says: “No specific site has been identified as the preferred location for a new casino premises.
“The council will expect those who wish to operate the facility, to nominate their own preferred location and support their nomination with evidence of how best such a development would meet the regeneration needs of the borough.”
The council says its responsibility is to stop gambling ‘from being a source of crime and disorder’ and ensure it is ‘conducted in a fair and open way’.
It also has to ‘protect children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling’.
The borough is one of eight areas set to get a casino.
The National Exhibition Centre has already said it will bid for the licence with a £90m scheme.
