Dorridge nursery expansion refused

A DORRIDGE nursery has lost its latest battle with councillors to allow it to take on more children.

The nursery at 85 Grange Road this week lost its bid to accommodate 26 children from Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council’s planning committee.

Some 19 residents opposed the plan with fears over traffic and parking. There were also concerns that future plans would try to expand the nursery.

The council threw out a plan to let it take on 20 children in 2008 but the nursery overturned this on appeal at the Planning Inspectorate, though it refused permission for 36 children.

It then got permission from the council for two extra parking spaces, to six.

A council planning officer urged the committee to reject the plan saying it would lead to increased traffic and a lack of parking.

They wrote: “At this location, which is on the inside of a bend and opposite and junction, it is not considered to be in the interests of highway safety.”
