Hours to be cut at Knowle Library

OPENING hours at Knowle library are set to be slashed to save cash.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council this week will be asked to cut opening hours from 39 hours a week to 32. Read current opening hours here.

It is one of seven affected, including Balsall Common. It is hoped the move – to take affect from April – will save £95,000.

A council report says the move will “reflect the pattern of customer use and need which could be achieved by planned approach to vacancy management”.

The move comes after a raft of costs including DVD and photocopying were raised at the library – though a move to charge for free services will not go ahead this year.

The council’s library service to schools will also be axed, to save £58,000.

The average council tax bill will increase by 2.18 per cent, about £28, in April, it was confirmed this week.
