THE local party of an expelled UKIP MEP says she has their ‘full support’.The Solihull & Meriden UKIP branch hit out at national bosses for telling Nikki Sinclaire to leave the party.
It dashes her hopes of contesting the Meriden seat – held by Conservative MP Caroline Spelman – at the General Election.
Her expulsion comes after she refused to back UKIP’s alliance with ‘extremist’ parties. Parties have to sit in broad groups in the European Parliament.
In a statement, the branch said it was ‘disappointed at recent NEC decision removing Nikki Sinclaire the UKIP Meriden PPC from the national approved list of candidates and condemn the National Executive Committee for their treatment of Nikki’.
It said: “Nikki Sinclaire MEP enjoys the full support of the committee in her recent decisions.
“We are perplexed at reports Nikki has difficulties with the 'voluntary' party. Nikki has always given full - co-operation with the branch that has led to success for UKIP.
“Nikki retains the full support of her local branch, the largest branch in the West Midlands.”
National UKIP leaders had said: “She has also proved unable to collaborate adequately with the voluntary party in the United Kingdom, particularly with the regional committee in the West Midlands.”
On her blog, the MEP said she there had been no disciplinary procedure.
She said: “With only eight weeks before a General Election I find it absolutely amazing that the Party decided to open a sore wound rather than fight the real enemy.”
