A SKILLS Academy has opened at Birmingham International Airport.The training facility is a partnership between the airport and Solihull College and is the first of its kind at a UK airport.
It located next to the terminal buildings and will train workers in all sectors for the airport, which hosts about 7,000 workers.

Airport head of HR Elaine Clarke said: “We’re committed to playing a full and active role in developing people through training; whether it’s for existing people on-site or potential employees in the surrounding areas.
“We now have a tailor-made facility to equip people with the skills they need to develop and help the 140 plus onsite companies to have a talented and satisfied workforce.”
College principal Brenda Sheils said: “We look forward to seeing as many employees as possible taking advantage of the first class facilities available to them through this scheme.”
Meriden Caroline Spelman, who attended the opening ceremony, said: “It is great to see the development of such a unique facility, particularly during such challenging economic times.”
The airport was given a boost last week when the Government announced it wanted to stop a planned high speed train connecting London to the north nearby.
