The outside of the building will undergo renovation from July to give it a ‘more modern feel’.

The inside will be given a re-fit to make it more energy efficient, including the installation of a sprinkler system.

The changes will take nine months.

During the works recycling banks to the side of the station will not be available. The nearest other facility is at Morrison’s in George Road.

Solihull station commander, Ben Diamond, said: “It will be very much business as usual at Solihull Fire Station, even though sections of the station might look a bit like a building site for a while.

“There will be no change to the fire cover we provide at Solihull, and all of our appliances will be available throughout the works.

“Once the work has been completed I’m confident we’ll have a fresh, more modern fire station which looks like it’s at the heart of our vibrant community.”
