Residents can opt out of the Summary Care Record scheme. Some have expressed concern about the security of medical records.

Yet Solihull NHS Care Trust said: “Many people assume that those treating them in an emergency already have access to their vital health information. They don’t.

“ This information has to be requested from GP practices, which is difficult if the practice is closed.

“The scheme will give doctors and nurses access to information about patients’ allergies, medication and any bad reactions they may have had to medication in the past.”
