St George and St Teresa RC Primary School in Mill Lane has submitted a planning application to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council for decision.
A support statement says: “In autumn winter and early spring, hours of darkness coincide with the normal operation of the school.
“This has resulted in a number of written and verbal complaints to the school about the lack of lighting and the perception of a secure and safe environment is currently low.
”The school is anxious that the lighting needs to [be] provided as soon as possible to prevent an accident or security incident at the site.”
It has also applied to install a temporary modular building for the before and after school club.
