The Knowle Society said it was working with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to extend opening hours.
They are seeking volunteers to give two to three hours a week. Training and support would be provided.
It was announced in March that the High Street library would close at 5pm on Monday compared to 7pm and 2pm on Saturday rather than 5pm.
It was part of a move to save more than £12m at the council.
A council report said: “Proposals have been based on a compromise between the cost of service delivery, local public demand and consultation, access to library services and member consultation.”
It said: “The reduction in opening hours will mean that staff rotas will need to change and staff will be required to work at more than one site in order to complete
their hours.
“It is envisaged that staff will be slotted into vacant posts that exist within libraries.”
