It comes after concerns that workers are using the 300-space car park all day, but are not being fined for over-staying.
Drivers will have to get a free ticket for the first three hours and pay and display over that. There will be no return within 90 minutes. No start date has been announced.
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, which owns the Blossomfield Road centre, said the move would make enforcement easier and ensure there is parking for centre users.
It comes after The Silhillian reported last week that SMBC is to increase prices for centre facilities by an average seven per cent.
The council says: “The scheme will provide free parking intended for leisure centre customers and visitors to neighbouring park, while ensuring that a fair enforcement regime can be operated.”
Parkwood Leisure, which runs the centre, had resisted enforcement as it said users wanted to stay longer than two hours. This meant traffic wardens did not regularly patrol the car park.
Yet the council urged charges to ‘maximise opportunities for revenue income’ and Parkwood now says changes are needed to ensure there are spaces for centre users.
The move is set to be agreed by the council today. The new parking charges will be:
Up to three hours – free
Up to four hours - £3.90
Up to five hours - £4.50
Up to six hours - £5.50
Up to seven hours - £8.00
More than seven hours - £8.00
No return within 90 Minutes
