Kimberley Developments originally planned to knock down the hall in St John's Close for a store (above).

A new hall would be built on a former bowling green by The Red Lion car park.

But Philip Pearce, a director at the firm, said: “We are exploring new ideas which would leave the village hall in it's current position.”

Responses from a January exhibition held by Kimberley at the village hall were split over the scheme.

Mr Pearce told The Silhillian: “We are looking at our current proposals in light of comments raised to try and and make improvements where possible.

“We are working constructively to come forward with plans which we hope address a lot of the concerns that were raised.”

The Knowle Society has said it understands the store would instead go on the bowling green. Mr Pearce declined to comment on this.

The firm submitted four planning applications to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council – which has the final say on it – in March. No decision has been made. New plans are expected next year.

A row of bungalows parallel with the High Street would be flattened and re-provided around the close to make way for parking, under original plans.

Yet many are concerned about the size of the store, the increase in traffic and the number of car parking spaces.

Some 180 spaces are proposed compared to 128 at present

Kimberley estimates 106 journeys in and out of car parks ‘associated with the store’ between 8am and 9am and 342 between 5pm and 6pm in the week.

It estimates 298 from 11am to 12pm and 265 from 2pm to 3pm on Saturdays.
