COUNCIL chiefs have refused to make major cuts to grants for voluntary groups to protect “the most vulnerable”

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council will give £541,830 to the nine groups, such as Citizens Advice Bureaus, compared to £564,350 this year.
It said those which gave a “much lower level of value for money” would get a cut of 10 per cent but others will be frozen. The council did not say which groups would be hit.
It said the reduction was “due to the current financial pressures placed on the council” from Government cash cuts. It is slashing overall costs by 10 per cent.
The council said funding was “set at a level which recognised the pressure these organisations could come under in supporting the most vulnerable in society during the difficult economic conditions”.
The grants are for:

Chelmsley Advice & Resource Centre £84,910 (Including saving of £10k for relocation from Keepers Lodge)
