Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) will merge its service with neighbouring Warwickshire County Council to save £50,000 for SMBC.
The council said the partnerships means the service “can be improved whilst saving money for both councils”.
The contract on SMBC's vehicle will not be renewed on March 31. Solihull workers will take other jobs in the council's library service.
It said the new vehicle will be “more modern and accessible vehicle with public access to free online library services and the internet”.
Councillor Graham Craig, cabinet member for community services, said: “We have had to make some tough financial decisions recently and I am pleased that we have been able to keep a free mobile library service running for our residents.
“Although this new partnership will mean changes for many of our existing users, it also means that we are able to provide better and more modern facilities and run the service more efficiently by avoiding duplication of mobile stops across the geographic areas of both authorities.
“The new routes will be regularly reviewed by Warwickshire’s library service in conjunction with us and we will listen to feedback from residents about the changes.”
The council said: “You may find that your local library is now closer for you than an alternative mobile library stop.”
The stops will be for 30 minutes and users will need a new Warwickshire card.
Housebound people can apply for a home delivery service.
