Five teachers and three Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council staff last year visited Main Taunus Kreis, Solihull’s twin town, to foster “international links”.

This included two nights at the Hotel Hammer in Mainz, figures released to The Silhillian under the Freedom of Information Act show.

This visit was in connection with the EU funded Comenius Regio project.

The project says it is a “great opportunity for local authority linking within Europe” to “motivate local authority staff and teachers by exchanging best practice”.

Council staff on the trip were Alesa Beales, international development manager; Philip Leivers, school improvement advisor and Sarah Lardner, education for sustainable development officer.

School staff on the trip included Mark Mitchell, head of Langley Primary School and Anne Byrne, head of Lady Katherine Leveson Primary.

Three teachers from Langley primary and secondary and Lady Katherine Leveson Primary also attended.

The council said their names could not be released under the Data Protection Act.

It said: “The visit was entirely grant funded meaning that the council did not pay for travelling, accommodation and other subsistence costs.”
