Cabinet and group leaders were confirmed at the full meeting of the council last night, the first since the Liberal Democrats and Labour coalition lost to the Tories on May 5.
Cllr Meeson, who led the council before it fell to the coalition in 2010, will face previous Lib Dem leader Ian Hedley across the council chamber.
The Conservatives went from 23 to 29 councillors while the Lib Dems fell from 16 to 12 at the poll.
Meanwhile, Cllr David Jamieson has taken over as Labour group leader after Mick Corser lost his seat. The party went down two seats to six.
Councillor Karl Macnaughton will lead the Green Party, which went from one to three councillors at the poll.
The defection of independent Lib Dem Howard Allen boosted this to four.
The Conservative cabinet is now:
Councillor Ken Meeson - Leader of the Council
Councillor Bob Sleigh - Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing (and deputy leader)
Councillor Ted Richards - Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways
Councillor Joe Tildesley - Cabinet Member for Children and Young People
Councillor Kate Wild - Cabinet Member for Community Services
Councillor Diana Holl-Allen - Cabinet Member for Safer Communities
Councillor Ian Courts - Cabinet Member for Economic Development
Lib Dem Councillor Irene Chamberlain (Liberal Democrat) is mayor and outgoing mayor Councillor Ian Courts is her deputy.
