St George and St Theresa RC Primary School in Mill Lane says the lighting is needed to improve safety.
A planning application submission states: “In autumn, winter and early spring, hours of darkness coincide with the normal operation of the school.
“This has resulted in complaints to the school about the lack of lighting and the perception of a secure and safe environment is currently low.”
