Regis Hairstylists in Drury Lane was 50 per cent damaged by fire and completely damaged by smoke and heat in the 9am incident. No-one was injured.
Crew commander Rob Atkins said the three staff members had arrived at 8.45am.
He told The Silhillian: “They switched a few items of equipment on and then went out the back.
“They came back into the shop and there was a fire developing in a wall-mounted hair dryer.”
He said: “There was quite a well-developed fire inside the hair salon when we arrived. The staff were outside safely.”
The fire “built up quite rapidly” he said.
Crews from Solihull and Bickenhill fire stations used hose reels and breathing apparatus.
A sign at the business asks customers to visit its outlet in nearby House of Fraser.
