250mph trains to run past Balsall Common

A 250mph high speed train line will run across the top of Balsall Common, detailed plans show. Click the link below to read.

The line would be mostly tunnelled and run above the existing train line that runs north of the village. See the map here (pdf, right click to save).

It says buildings at Lavender Hall Farm, on Lavender Hall Lane, are in the way. Bosses have said compulsory purchase orders may be needed.

This would be about five miles from Knowle and also pass Hampton-in-Arden overground.

It would stop at a new station near Birmingham International train stations and airport, a move hailed by MPs. See the map of the whole route here. Read all the reports here.

Journey times will be slashed to 49 minutes, the Government says. A full consultation will take place.

The Sunday Mercury today reports that borough council tax bills could go up to pay for the scheme.

The Solihull branch of estate agent Reeds Rains told BBC's The Politics Show that the move would push up house prices.
