Police call for newsagent booze ban

POLICE want to ban a Solihull newsagent from selling alcohol.

West Midlands Police has applied for Poplar Road’s Newsflow to have its premises licence reviewed by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.

The application states: “Application for the review of a premises licence following concerns that the four licensing objectives are not being adhered to.

“They are also requesting for the alcohol licence to be removed.”

The four licensing objectives are: the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.

The force was due to take the issue to the council’s licensing act panel in October but withdrew it after agreeing conditions and reduced hours when alcohol could be sold.
