The unit closed on April 26 over safety fears and to allow building work to take place for it to re-open as a midwife-led unit only.
A consultation on its long-term future will take place in the autumn.
In a press release, bosses said a recent ‘engagement event’ with residents found a prority was to ‘provide a birth centre at Solihull Hospital which would be led by midwives’.
This is despite widespread opposition to the move amongst residents.
The need for more midwives, home births and better postnatal services were also highlighted.
Dr Patrick Brooke, medical director of Solihull NHS Care Trust said: “The event gave us the opportunity to listen to the people of Solihull and Birmingham East and North.
“We are committed to providing a safe maternity service for all women.
“We have listened to what local clinicians, pregnant women and new mums have told us and we will now incorporate their views into our strategy for maternity services.”
