SUPERMARKETS could be fined if their trolleys end up in park ponds and rivers under new plans.Fed-up council chiefs want to charge stores £60 for every disposal after saying assurances the problem was being tackled failed to materialise.
About 30 are being collected across the borough every month, they said.

A report said: “These supermarkets have been contacted on many occasions regarding this issue and have given assurances that action would be taken to prevent this from happening in the future.
“Unfortunately the problem is continuing and therefore the need to take alternative action has arisen.”
It said dumped trolleys are an ‘eyesore’ and those in watercourses can cause blockages and flooding.
The authority said staff time and vehicle costs would be £35 with £15 for disposal and £10 for administration.
It said: “This new initiative will encourage supermarkets in and around the Borough to act responsibly in relation to the abuse of their trolleys and to prevent their being
removed and abandoned in the manner described.
“ Instances have occurred where trolleys have been used as instruments of vandalism and to facilitate further acts of damage such as arson, incurring costs to the authority.”
The move will need the approval of the council’s cabinet.
