Restaurant hygiene ratings to be published

RESIDENTS will be able to know hygiene ratings for every borough restaurant by the end of the year.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council already rates each premises but has not joined other councils by publishing them online.

They will be rated zero to five stars under the scheme, to be published on the Scores on the Doors website.

Premise owners will be display to show their score certificate to customers.

A council report said: “It is anticipated that the publication of this data on the internet will encourage food businesses to raise their hygiene standards to appeal to their customers and provide a business benefit.

“If this is the case then the number of food related inspections to such premises may reduce, enabling resources to be directed to those premises that pose the greatest risk.”

This will see premises improve hygiene, it said.
