SOLIHULL and Meriden MPs tonight backed Government spending cuts of £81bn.

Meriden's Caroline Spelman and Solihull's Lorely Burt said the measures were tough but fair to tackle Britain's deficit.
Lib Dem Mrs Burt said: “The spending review process has been tough.
“The decisions we have had to take are difficult and we must not ignore the impact they will have on people and families in Solihull.
“But in order to protect our economy, we must reduce the deficit, we must wipe the slate clean for future generations and we must face up to the difficult decisions we’ve been forced to make.
“But alongside these difficult decisions we have worked to ensure the measures are fairly spread, in a way that promotes future fairness and future prosperity.”
She said: “The Labour party talk of a return to the 1980s, but actually spending will only be returning to the levels we had in 2006 and there is plenty for the West Midlands to be pleased about.
We will all benefit from capital investments such as the construction of the High Speed Rail link to London and the upgrade to Birmingham New Street station.
“These projects will bring economic benefits to the region which will promote growth and jobs for Solihull residents.
“We have a hard road to recovery ahead, but I am determined to ensure it is a road that leads to fairness too.”
Conservative Mrs Spelman, Secretary of State for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, said: “Dealing with the deficit is unavoidable, but the decisions about how to do it are not.
“The Spending Review has set out our choices: investment in the future rather than the bills of past failure.
“This has entailed tough choices but the NHS, schools, security and infrastructure have been prioritised so that our economy can start to grow again but this means cuts in welfare and waste. “
She said: “Over the next few years average spending will be cut by 19 per cent which is less than the last Government.
“There are still important spending commitments in our region which include re-building Birmingham New Street Station, extending the Metro and building a High Speed railway to London.”
