A BURGLAR caught by a PC just who was weeks from retirement has been jailed for 21 months.Spencer Daffurn, right, was arrested following a break in at a Widney Road, Knowle house on June 11 by officers including PC Malcolm Cough.

Police responded to a midday call from a resident who saw Daffurn enter a back garden, police said in a press release.
He forced open the patio doors and stole jewellery, foreign currency, phones, a games console, two cameras and champagne before jumping from an upstairs window.
As reported on The Silhillian this week, he threw a wedding ring as a left but later led police to it.
He was seen by PC Clough, 51, who chased Daffurn through gardens, over fences and into St George & St Theresa Primary School.
He and fellow officers arrested Daffurn as he tried to slip through the school gates. PC Clough retired the following month after 30 years service.
Daffurn, formerly of Tulip Walk, Chelmsley Wood and Pope's Lane in Kings Norton, was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court.
He also asked for another burglary the same day in Widney Road to be taken into some consideration.
Solihull Police's Meriden Sector Inspector Keith Portman, said: "In some professions, when you're a few weeks from retirement, it tends to be wind-down time.
But that's certainly not the case in the police force as Malcolm demonstrated – he was still chasing criminals.
"Malcolm was dedicated to policing and keeping his communities safe throughout his career. He deserves a long and happy retirement.”
PC Clough received a commendation in 1983 for his part in disarming a gunman and has now retired to France with his partner to run a holiday homes letting firm.
