Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has indicated it will not oppose the plan, for the Blossomfield Road campus.
The scheme would need council permission but refusal can be overturned on appeal to the national Planning Inspectorate.
No details have been given on the scale of the mast. Another is proposed for Homer Road, which the council will object to.

The council said it would oppose a mast or monopole on its impact of the environment and design – but not health grounds.
Councils are told not to regard health issues when deciding planning applications.
Its policy says: “Telecommunications development in or adjacent to sensitive locations, such as residential areas, education and health institutions, listed buildings, conservation areas, archaeological sites, sites of ecological and geological importance, historic parks and gardens, public open space and the Green Belt, will be permitted only if there is no other technically suitable location that both meets operational requirements and causes less environmental harm, and any mast is at a distance of at least twice its height from the nearest residential property.”
The Government’s Health Protection Agency said this year: “The scientific consensus is that, apart from the increased risk of a road accident due to mobile phone use when driving, there is no clear evidence of adverse health effects from the use of mobile phones or from phone masts.”
