RESIDENTS are being warned about a doorstep council tax scam.

Homeowners are told they are due a council tax rebate or reward for paying the bill on time and are asked to provide their bank details.
But Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council said it was a “scam”.
It said: “A number of residents have contacted the council in the past few weeks about bogus callers, posing as council staff, asking for bank details.
“The council is urging residents not to give their personal or bank details over the phone unless they are certain who the caller is.”
One was told to ring a premium phone number to receive the cash.
Bills are set according the value of the property yet these can be changed on appeal to the Valuation Office, giving homeowners a rebate.
Councillor Len Cresswell, cabinet member for safer communities, said: "These calls are a scam.
“The council does not give large cash rewards for paying council tax on time and any notification about council tax banding would be done by the Valuation Office not us.
"We're asking residents to be on their guard. If you are at all suspicious of a caller do not give any personal information out.”
