Collections will begin on Monday December 27, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council said. Up to three black bags left at the side of bins will be collected, it said.
It said recycling collections are suspended “until the New Year”.
The authority said roads in its winter service plans (see map) had been gritted.
It said: “We will continue with our current gritting schedule and current routes and have sufficient supplies of salt at present.
“The condition of the road network in Solihull is improving as the grit and salt takes effect, regular inspections will take place and the levels of salt are continually monitored.”
Extra grit was being used on key junctions, the council said. It warned or more snow later oday and tomorrow.
It went on “Council workers are clearing snow and compacted ice from key shopping areas and areas such as routes to the hospital.
“The aim is to keep clear a path into these key areas to allow businesses, shoppers and workers to carry on as normal as far as possible.”
Council leader, Liberal Democrat Ian Hedley, said “We are doing everything we can to ensure we keep our borough running during this bout of extremely inclement weather.
“We are working to keep our roads clear, against massive odds, and while we are not able to grit every road in the borough, our gritters have been out and about, keeping our main roads moving - albeit at a slower pace.”
He urged residents to use grit bins to keep side roads safe but not use it for their drives.
He said: “We have had to suspend our refuse service this week. This is always a last resort for us, but given the conditions, we felt it was the most sensible option.
“We will do our utmost to get the services back to normal as soon as we can.”
Cllr Hedley added: “Sometimes these events bring out our community spirit and bring us together, in the most unusual of circumstances.”
