West Midlands Police said the bid by Apres to close at 3am instead of 2am on Thursday to Saturday would stretch their resources.
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council will make the final decision on the plan and has asked the bar to reach an agreement that will satisfy police.
In a letter to the council, the police said: “Policing within the town is at a premium from 0200 hours with resources fully stretched dealing with the night time economy leaving premises safely and the town centre.
“Putting this further burden on police resources will substantially affect the policing plan’s capacity to maintain a safe and orderly environment in the town centre.”
It said: “There are grounds to believe that crime and disorder will escalate at premises during the terminal hour of licenced premises closing within the town centre with conflict between customers leaving premises at the same hour.”
Retired policeman and St Alphege councillor Joe Tildesley also criticised the plan.
He said: “We already have a hard pressed local police service providing an inordinate amount of their time and resources policing Solihull town centre and the night time economy.”
He said: “There is a point at which local police services cannot be stretched any further.”
The move could lead to more “violence and disorder” as people leave venues that close at 2am to go to Apres, he warned.
And he warned it could see other premises open later too.
Venues allowed to open to 3am or later instead close at 2am under an ‘unofficial’ agreement with police, Cllr Tildesley said, but he said they could open later if the Apres plan is approved.
Apres bosses said CCTV would be installed and the venue is ‘sophisticated and prestigious’.
They also take part in the Pubwatch scheme, where licensees co-ordinate with police and each other to keep out troublemakers.
