A planning application has been submitted for the High Street shop which would have more than 50 seats inside and seats on the pavement.
A report of the last meeting of the society’s trustee directors said: “Generally it was felt that this development would be satisfactory with appropriate safeguards about opening hours in respect of the residents in the adjacent residential flats.”
The shop would open from 7am to 7pm most days but the firm wants the option to open as late as 10pm under the plan.
It said the stores are “one of the main social hubs on the High Street” and would see shoppers stay longer in the village.
The company has submitted a planning application to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, which will have the final say on the plans.
Readers of The Silhillian have been split over the plans.
One wrote: “Please let it be a resounding NO! What we do not need nor want is a Costa Coffee.”
But another said: “Why cant we bring Knowle into the 21st Century, we have nothing that we can call specific Cafe/Coffee shop and certainly any where to have a decent coffee, you can get mediocre drinks in some 'pokey' places. Say no to this and why not open up another gift ('Tat') shop we certainly do NOT need! I say yes!”
Another said: “Would be a nice addition if there was an empty shop, would be a shame to see Carly's go.”
