They said the plan for the High Street store would lead to a “significant increase in noise” as it could be open as late as 10pm.
The outlet would have more than 50 seats inside and seating outside on the pavement in High Street.
It would open from 7am to 7pm most days but the firm wants the option to open as late as 10pm.
A planning application has been made to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to change the use of the unit from retail to a coffee shop. Carly's would move to a nearby unit.
The official objection to the council states: “Staff will have to clear up, once again omitting considerable noise and disturbance, maybe even into the early hours.
“In the summertime, people will be talking, laughing and joking on the High St below the flat.”
It says external extraction units would create “unpleasant odours and 24hr humming noise” and the nearby passegeway was already an “unauthorised drinking den” for youths.
The objection, from P Cureton, says: “There are few residential properties on the High St remaining thus taking out more character of our so-called ‘village’.
“We would also lose a retail shop which would have the knock on effect of less foot traffic during the day times.”
The objection says this would “result in the opening of another Indian Restaurant in the village” if Costa does not go in. It says: “Surely seven is enough.”
It adds: “Surely there are more appropriate locations for a Costa Coffee /another restaurant where it will not interfere with residents above, or the street scene.
“Knowle will become less busy during the daylight hours and more busy during the night resulting in more anti-social behaviour with it's inevitable consequences.”
The floor must be soundproofed if the application is approved, it adds.
It says: “Being a long standing resident of Knowle for 30 years, the High Street has changed significantly resulting in a divide.
“The top half from Hunters to the Red Lion is very busy with foot traffic but from Hunters down to the Wilsons Arms is dead during the day which is solely down to the concentration of restaurants and reduction of retail outlets.
“We should, at all costs select a new location for Costa Coffee, ie; regenerate the bottom half of the High Street.”
A second comment, from Denise Bloomfield, said: “There are already many places available to have coffee in Knowle.
“Generally, locally run businesses who would suffer by a large coffee franchise moving into the village.”
